Hence the body-changing. Yeah, I get it. [ it's so out of the realm of possibilities for him, but at the same time he seems to be thinking this over. ] Is there a way to reverse it back where you're from?

Probably, but I'm not so sure I want to.

In the story I'm from, I'm meant to suffer so I can learn the lesson that I should listen to my mom and never stray from the path I'm on. It's kind of a fucked up lesson! A friend of mine, it's even worse. He has to be perfect and never make any mistakes or tell any lies, or he doesn't get to be a real boy.

I don't think that's fair, do you?

[ why the fuck is this girl friends with pinnocchio. what is happening. this is how jonas really knows he's dead, fairytales are actually real somewhere. but okay, the thing about it is that she's not wrong? it's pretty fucked up. having a predetermined destiny like that sounds pretty frustrating.

people make mistakes all the time. punishing them with something that big seems pretty unbalanced. ]

No. I don't. It's not fair because it sounds like once you mess up once, that's it for you. No chance of redemption or trying again. And...now that this happened to you, you have a little more of a chance to write your own version of the story where those things don't happen. Something like that?

...Ylfa. But Red is okay by me, too.

[ there's a nod. he will probably stick with ylfa just because he's now thinking it's a little important to separate her from her story, but it's fine. ]

Jonas. I, uh. Don't have a nickname or anything like that so...you know. [ but there's a light frown. ] Kind of messed up for you to wind up here after all of that though.

Oh, it's about what I expected. I always knew things wouldn't end well.

You seem really weirdly calm about it though. [ like wow, if only some of the other people could subscribe to that level of chill. ]

Yeah...

Things have been breaking bad for a while now. I'm kind of desensitized to it.

[westedge]

I'm sure some people would say that's a bad thing, but I'm thinking that might actually benefit you here? [ like haha, yikes. ] What's causing everything to break? Or is it just how the story goes?

[honkinbigteeth]

It's not. The version I'm living is darker than it's supposed to be. It's complicated, but - I think I'm the one causing it.

[ hm. not great. ]

That does sound complicated. [ he doesn't even know the details, but when it's something directly tied to you? what else could it be? ] What makes you say that though?

[honkinbigteeth]

Well, at first it was something the wolf did. But then when I died, he told me I could go back, if I wanted to, to a happier version of my story. But the Ylfa from the darker version of the story might be able to do more to help my friends.

And that made sense, so I agreed to keep going.

[westedge]

How do you know the wolf wasn't lying to you about it? Can you trust something like that? [ he's getting the sense that that part doesn't matter from the moment ylfa heard "help my friends", but he's trying to get a picture here. ]

[honkinbigteeth]

I...think he's sort of a straight shooter. I'm not sure he knows how to lie. Though he sure knows how to deceive a girl by wearing her grandma's nightie!

[westedge]

[ there's a faint laugh. it's not really at her, just the absurdity of everything. ]

That's the thing about wolves. Wolves in sheep's clothing, all that stuff. [ moving on. ] How much darker is the dark version of your story, Ylfa?

[honkinbigteeth]

It's not great. For one thing, there's no happy ending.

[westedge]

But does that mean there's also no chance of getting one at all if you change a few things?

[honkinbigteeth]

I don't know, but I'm not sure a happy ending is what I want, anyway. I don't want my story to just end.

[westedge]

Who does? [ it sounds confident enough to be believable, at least. ] Then in any case, we'll do what has to be done so you can keep...writing it, I guess. Easy enough.

[ mostly, he thinks it's easy to think about the people who have things to get home for when it comes to strategizing. ]

[she will give him a big fangy smile, because it's sweet that he says 'we.']

[ he does not say that he's way less concerned about his story because she's a kid. also the fangy smile is kind of cute. ]

Sure. It'll take all of us. [ but that said... ] Guess I should keep going to see who else might be part of this game. But I'm sure we'll talk later?
