[ you know the way cats sometimes get startled or fall off of something and try sooo hard to appear unruffled as they begin grooming themselves and blatantly ignoring anyone who witnessed their failure? that's the vibe. jonas is immediately holding up both hands like "my bad" as he looks away instead. ]
Okay, sorry. My bad for assuming. I guess he's another person like you and Gerard with stories to follow...? What can he do with the book?
[to be fair one of her friends is just a cat so its reasonable to assume.]
Well, you see, his son Jack was always kind of getting into trouble, and he made a deal with this very creepy evil goose for three wishes and used them to get rich, but at the end the evil goose killed him.
So Mother accepted the goose's bargain and wished for a way to save his son and got this book, which it turns out is super powerful. He can put people in the book and they're safe there, or he might even be able to use the book to change their stories.
I'm in here, so maybe when I died, he put me in?

[ HELP IS THIS WHAT D20 IS ABOUT. this is both jonas's and mine reaction because he's like. aware of who mother goose is, in theory. and he knows about ylfa and gerard having their own stories, so when she explains there's the little inklings of surprise inching into his emotions. ]
Yeah...gotta watch for those evil birds, I guess. [ jesus. ] If that's true does that mean Mother's the guy who's in charge of what you're doing now? If he can just change people's stories. How do you get back out of the book once you're in there?
[it is what D20: neverafter is about, one of many different campaigns. theres one thats the plot of game of thrones but in candy land.]
Oh boy, yeah. Evil birds can be a big problem. [and...] Mother's in charge of what I'm doing in the sense that he's a responsible adult who looks after me, but in other senses - he can't change them that easily or anything. He's sort of figuring out how to do it as we go. But he'd only use it for good things, anyway. He's pretty nice.
as she explains though, there's a sense of relief that shows up like he had actually been worried about this. even if there's a low level of confusion as well. ]
That's both a good and a bad thing in any case. [ changing things with effort, good, so you don't screw up. not being able to change things easily, bad, because things can always be awful. ] It's a lot of responsibility for someone, it sounds like. So at least you can trust him with what he's doing and how he plans to help you.

But he is very powerful, especially with this book.
