[ carefully, he'll step backwards, enough to reach the tree nearby. if he tries to climb this it will be impossible, but with a grunt, fei du grabs onto the lowest branch and manages to hoist himself up onto it. if this was any other situation, it might be funny.

I was fond, of Rin. He asked me to teach him how to be helpful at a trial; I suggested that he could help to be a leader with the younger group, and he got flustered. [ it comes with a little huff. ] But, he agreed to learn how to sharpen his senses and get better at observing evidence, even if it took time.
[ but as it turns out, there wasn't much time at all. ]
I thought so too. He had a knack for it, even if he didn't quite believe me.
[ he was a good kid. fei du is generally aloof in these situations when he's not like, throwing up blood everywhere, but for the first time, there's a bit of obvious weight on his shoulders. he was pretty fond. ]
...We have some experience with how this works, now. It should help us be a little more efficient than we were last week. [ even if there's a park with 4953409894 acres of space but you know what it's fine. ] And the more hands on deck, the harder it will be for someone to hide in plain sight.

[she isn't sure. she's sitting, curled up with her arms around her knees, keeping her distance for reasons she isn't fully clear on. just tense in the way an injured animal might be tense.]
[this is making her feel better. at least, less unhinged, more just...sad. there aren't two wolves inside her, there's a wolf and a little girl living in awkward cohabitation.]

...I lost someone fairly close to me, when I was just a little older than you. I'll never forget what that felt like.
